Kentville Recreation is working towards making Memorial Pool more physically accessible and safe! The kiddie pool in front of the main pool has been removed to make way for additional parking, including a number of accessible parking spaces. In addition, the changes will allow for the creation of more green space and a picnic area near the main pool.
In future years plans are to add water elements to the main pool deck that will replace the function previously filled by the kiddie pool, as a way for younger children to find relief from the heat. Pool Replastering also should be done any time soon and also new algaecides are being used regularly for a clean pool. Having the features located on the main deck will allow for lifeguards to watch all pool patrons where as previously the kiddie area was unsupervised. Kentville Recreation will also be offering accessible swimming lessons this summer in addition to the regular swimming program, part of the Departments goal to make recreation programs in Kentville more accessible to all.
Seasonal maintenance on the Memorial Pool facility is underway, and the pool will be ready to go for opening day on the 30th of June. Kentville Recreation will also be holding Canada Day Celebrations that will include free swimming and giveaways.
