The Kentville Water Commission wishes to advise its customers that receive service from the water main on James Street (Smith Avenue and Sherry Avenue tie into this water main as well) that replacement of this water main will soon commence. Although originally estimated to start in September, this project is now ahead of schedule and in its preliminary construction stages. Work may begin as early as Tuesday, August 22nd.
Once construction starts, the duration is estimated to be three weeks. During construction short sections of James Street will be blocked to through traffic from 7 am to 7 pm. Access will be restored to driveways by 7 pm. Residents on James Street and Smith Avenue should only expect loss of driveway access for one day. Residents on Sherry Avenue will not lose driveway access but may wish to drive through Challenger Drive and Oakdene Avenue during construction. You will be given a minimum of 24 hours’ notice regarding loss of driveway access. Barring unforeseen circumstances, the actual loss of water service during construction should only be a few hours per customer while services are changed over to the new water main. Prior to this connection you will receive notice of the same. It is recommended that you shut off the water valve coming in to your home during this procedure. There may be some discolouration in the system after the water has been reconnected. If so, simply run your water taps until the water is once again clear.
The Kentville Water Commission apologizes for any inconvenience this necessary work may cause.
