Thursday Nights Outside: Summer Series

Explore Kentville this summer with our Thursday Nights Outside series. Bring the whole family and join Judy Lipp to discover the magic of nature all around us.

The summer series will take you to the Kentville Ravine, the new playground at Oakdene Park and the Gorge to name just a few of the incredible evenings planned. For full event details for July please see the schedule below.

July 19th Water Play (and/or a cool walk) in the Ravine

Cool off from the heat of summer by exploring the lovely, crisp and clear Elderkin Brook that flows through the Kentville Ravine.  Bring good footwear – the walk into the ravine is a bit steep – and perhaps a change of clothesIt’s a lovely area for a cool hike too so you can stay and splash or wander through the giant Hemlock’s.  Dogs on leashes welcome.  Bring your dinner in a picnic basket/backpack!

Location: 32 Main Street, Kentville (behind the Research Station) – meet at the parking lot at the top of the hill

July 26th Nature’s Art Gallery

Come create art in the Kentville Gorge inspired by nature’s beauty using all natural found objects.  We’ll have a ‘gallery opening’ when we’re all done, the same evening.  All supplies provided.  ‘Wine’ (don’t worry- it’s just apple juice!) and cheese served.  All ages welcome!

Location:  Kentville Gorge, meeting at the end of Gladys Porter Drive

Time:  6:00 – 7:30


August 2nd Fresh Air Percussion

What better way to enjoy summer than with an outdoor music jam.  Join percussionist Bruno Allard who will teach some west African drumming rhythms and show us how to make music from found objects.

Location: Oakdene Park

Time: 6:30 – 8:00


August 9th Irish Dancing with Tir na nóg  Dance Studio

Learn some new dance moves with Tir na nóg this summer. Enjoy a demo performance followed by some introductory steps for those autumn kitchen parties.

August 16th Miner’s Marsh Trail Adventure

Explore Kentville’s wetland world with Marina Myra as she takes us on an adventure all around Miner’s Marsh. Learn about the plants and animal that make the Marsh their home through fun games and activities.  Geared at ages 7 – 12, but all welcome.

Location: Miner’s Marsh

August 23rd Community Camp Fire!

Join us for a community camp fire at Oakdene Park! There’s nothing quite like a camp fire on a hazy summer evening. Bring your lawn chair, and some snacks and settle in for songs and stories around the fire.

August 30th Nature Play for All Ages

Enjoy an evening of nature games and activities that will give you a new appreciation of the plants and animals that share  our town.   Come meet a tree, enjoy a scent sundae, discover a rainbow and tend a wild garden.  We’ll be using all our senses to discover, explore, learn and share.  For all ages encouraged to participate: the young and the young at heart.
