Smarter Smartphone Photography

Want to take better photos with your cellphone?

Kentville is offering a free, three-hour, online photography workshop, hosted by award-winning photographer Bridget Havercroft on Tuesday January 25, 2022 from 9:00 am to 12:00pm.  This is a class for anyone who wants to use their smartphone or android phone to create professional-looking images. You will learn about:

  • Fundamentals of photography
  • Tips and techniques
  • How to hold the phone for taking photographs
  • Exposures and shooting modes
  • Action shots, panoramas and dual lens
  • Editing with simple software, for the final touches

In exchange for this workshop, participants will share some of their photos throughout the year of Kentville with the communications team for promoting the town!  Participants will become the Town's "Photo Squad" - taking photos of people, places, events, and special moments around town.

Participants must have access to a computer and be familiar with using the online platform Zoom, and they must have their own phone during the workshop.  Please register by emailing jwest@kentville.ca.  Registration closes at 4pm on Sunday January 23.  To secure your place in this workshop, we ask that you commit to sharing some photos of Kentville with us (landscapes, events, iconic buildings, etc).  We will add you to a mailing list for our Photo Squad and will send out photo examples and reminders to share with us.  We also encourage participants to share to the instragram tags @thereal_tok and #kentville.

About your teacher, Bridget Havercroft from Bridget Havercroft Photography:

Photographer Bridget HavercroftBridget Havercroft is a Nova Scotia-based lifestyle and business photographer who was voted Best Local Photographer for the Best of the Bunch in the Grapevine Magazine, nominated for the RBC Women of Influence award 2021 and the Women of Excellence Award for the Best Home Business.  Originally from Yorkshire in England, Bridget and her husband moved to Nova Scotia in 2007, instantly falling in love with the place they now call home.

Bridget’s career experience spans several industries, beginning as a model in the fashion industry, then as an account manager with an advertising agency, office manager for a design agency and a firm of architects, and positions in the insurance and banking industry. With years of experience in exceeding client’s expectations, she's passionate about delivering outstanding customer service and helping clients see the value in their investment.

Bridget’s love of photography started at a young age, and she merits her love of the printed image to her grandparents and their numerous photo albums. Becoming a professional photographer was a natural progression of wanting to tell her own story through the modern day digital image.  It’s that passion which has driven her to become a recognized professional in both the food and beverage industry, the corporate headshot and branding industry and also as a real estate photographer working with many of the Valley’s top agents.
