This is a Special (unscheduled) Meeting of Council to discuss matters of planning and development, in open session (public).
Tonight’s special council meeting involves the presentation of two development applications and rezoning applications. This is the beginning of a process that includes at least two public information meetings to hear from residents.
The first is an application from Brison Developments for the Park Street area, near Evergreen Home, and the second is from Cogs Development for an area to the west of Mee Road. The purpose of introducing the applications is to allow staff to make a recommendation that the applications go to Council for first reading, which will trigger the scheduling of public information meetings and public hearings for each application, to be booked and advertised. There will be no public comments at tonight’s meeting- these will be collected at the public information meeting and the public hearing.
Kentville residents elect six councillors and the mayor every four years during municipal elections. This team meets each month during the Council Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting with directors to understand town operations, and to receive recommendations from staff. At the end of each month, council considers these and other recommendations and makes decisions in the best interest of the town. Both the CAC and council meetings are open to the public, either live at Town Hall or online using YouTube. All council meetings and council meeting highlights are available on the town's YouTube channel.
