Storm Preparedness - Sept 15 2023

UPDATED SEPT 15 1:38 PM

As we approach the weekend, Hurricane Lee has been in the news and is expected to have an impact this weekend, Sept 16-17.  Heavy rain and strong winds are expected. You can follow the Kings REMO social media accounts for updates about the storm and get tips about how to best prepare.

  • The Town of Kentville is paying close attention to weather updates and reports, and staying in touch with REMO and other emergency response partners.
  • We are preparing by ensuring that our systems are working as efficiently as possible to mitigate the potential issues that can arise when rain falls rapidly and in large amounts, as we have seen recently.
  • Our team is prepped to respond as needed and we have procured additional third party supports to assist us if the need arises over the weekend.
  • Residents can help prepare by eliminating or securing debris in their yards ahead of the storm.  Yard waste and other debris left out can be washed into culverts and block storm water systems.
  • Sandbags are available for Kentville residents at the Public Works shop (875 West Main Street) for pick up on Friday Sept 15th.  Delivery is not available, please be aware we have limited quantities.
  • Our not for profit agencies are working hard to help unhoused people find shelter.  People who are unhoused and need assistance finding shelter should call 211.

Anyone who would like some additional guidance about being prepared for bad weather can check out the resources listed in the helpful links section, or visit the Kings REMO website for more information.
