NOVA SCOTIA REGULATORY AND APPEALS BOARD NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
IN THE MATTER OF AN APPLICATION by the KENTVILLE WATER COMMISSION, for approval of amendment to its Schedule of Rates and Charges for Water and Water Services and amendments to its Schedule of Rules and Regulations. This matter will be considered in a public hearing as follows:
Hearing starts: Tuesday, April 7, 2026 10:30 a.m.
Hearing Location: Council Chambers, Kentville, 354 Main St. Kentville, Nova Scotia

You may speak at the hearing. You must notify the Board by Thursday, March 19, 2026, of your request to speak.

You may request formal standing as an Intervenor, subject to Board approval. This will allow you to present evidence or cross-examine witnesses. Your request must be received by the Board by Thursday, February 12, 2026, and a copy of your written evidence by Thursday, March 19, 2026.
Additional information about the matter is as follows:
For residential customers (5/8” meters), the current average quarterly water bill is $62.67, and it is proposed to increase to $70.81 (a 13.0% increase) in 2026/27; $72.01 (a 1.7% increase) in 2027/28; and $74.92 (a 4.0% increase) in 2028/29.
For all other metered services, the utility is requesting amendments ranging from 6.5% to 18.7% in 2026/27; 0.4% to 14.3% in 2027/28; and 3.5% to 6.6% in 2028/29.
The annual fire protection charge paid by the town, currently $607,750, is proposed to increase to $711,897 (a 17.1% increase) for 2026/27, $747,920 (a 5.1% increase) for 2027/28 and $784,182 (a 4.8% increase) for 2028/29.
Upon reviewing the Application, the Board, in its Decision, may determine that the proposed amendments should be as requested, higher, or lower.
