Downtown Construction Schedule and Updates - Summer 2025

Downtown Construction Schedule and Updates - Summer 2025

As the Town of Kentville prioritizes much needed repairs to our streets and sidewalks this season there will be a variety of jobs and activity happening over the coming weeks.  Consult this section of our website for updates as we move through the construction and repair season.

MAIN STREET (EAST END) PAVING WILL TAKE PLACE ON FRIDAY AUGUST 8

  • Paving is anticipated to happen on Friday August 8th.  This part of the work will cause significant congestion, and travelers are encouraged to seek out alternative routes to help alleviate back-ups during this work.
  • Milling and prep work started Tuesday July 29th
  • Work is happening between Southview Avenue and Brooke Avenue
  • Traffic control is in place, stop and go, down to one lane
  • Travelers are encouraged to use alternative routes when travelling between Kentville and New Minas.
  • Suggested / encouraged routes into and out of downtown (east) during this work:  Use the connector to travel between New Minas and Kentville North end, and Belcher Street to go to and from downtown OR use Highway 101 and Chester Avenue.
  • Crews are hoping to have this stretch completed by Friday August 8th, weather and other conditions permitting.

DOWNTOWN SIDEWALK REPLACEMENT PROJECT

  • Work to replace sidewalks in Kentville's downtown core started in the Spring of 2024 and continues with the next phase which began in April 2025.
  • The project includes sidewalk replacement on Aberdeen Street, Webster Street, Main Street, and some work on Bridge.
  • Work on Aberdeen has been completed!

Webster Street - work started

  • Crews started on Webster Street Wednesday July 23rd.
  • Work includes complete removal and replacement of the curb and sidewalk as well as the installation of a bump-out at the crosswalk nearest R.D. Chisholm Ltd.

Main Street - work starting very soon!

  • Work on the South side of Main Street will start within the next 2 weeks.  A start date will be posted here once confirmed.
  • Work area includes the south side of the sidewalk in the stretch from Aberdeen to Prospect
  • Work required on this section includes replacement of underground pipes in addition to replacement of the curb and sidewalks
  • This job is difficult to execute in this location due to the nature of the work, the location of a pinch point in the work area near the clock, and pre-existing underground power and communication lines running heavily through and around the site.
  • Traffic control will be in place. We ask that the travelling public leave extra time or take alternative routes where possible to alleviate some of the congestion this work will create.

Updates will be added to this page as we have them available.  We understand there will be some unavoidable disruption as we work through this considerable project in the downtown business district.  We appreciate cooperation and patience from our downtown operators and visitors as we complete this important work to make our downtown more accessible and better for everyone.

Business operators and property owners with questions or concerns can also contact the Town as required.
