Downtown Construction Schedule and Updates - Summer 2025

Downtown Construction Schedule and Updates - Summer 2025

As the Town of Kentville prioritizes much needed repairs to our streets and sidewalks this season there will be a variety of jobs and activity happening over the coming weeks.  Consult this section of our website for updates as we move through the construction and repair season.

DOWNTOWN SIDEWALK REPLACEMENT PROJECT

Work to replace sidewalks in Kentville's downtown core started in the Spring of 2024 and continues with the next phase which began in April 2025.   The project includes sidewalk replacement on Aberdeen Street, Webster Street, Main Street, and some work on Bridge.

Aberdeen Street - WORK COMPLETED!
Webster Street - work ongoing
  • Crews started on Webster Street Wednesday July 23rd.
  • Work includes complete removal and replacement of the curb and sidewalk as well as the installation of a bump-out at the mid-point crosswalk. Milling and Paving of the asphalt street surface will complete the project.
  • Curb forming is complete
  • Pouring of curb is complete
  • Pouring of sidewalk surface is complete
  • *Milling and paving on Webster Street is scheduled to begin Tuesday October 7th
Main Street - work ongoing
  • Mobilization and staging of the work began on the South side of Main Street, downtown, on Monday September 8th.
  • Work area includes the south side of the sidewalk from the intersection at Aberdeen and Main to the intersection of Prospect and Main.
  • Work required on this section includes replacement of underground pipes in addition to replacement of the curb and sidewalks
  • This job is difficult to execute in this location due to the nature of the work, the location of a pinch point in the work area near the clock, and pre-existing underground power and communication lines running heavily through and around the site.
  • Traffic control has been in place and so far is working as intended.  The south end of Aberdeen Street (by TAN coffee) is reduced to one lane.
  • Some delay to traffic movement is expected during this job, with main street being reduced to one lane from Aberdeen to Church on many days. The impact to traffic flow has been minimal to medium so far (as of update provided October 2).
  • We ask that the travelling public leave extra time or take alternative routes downtown where possible during this work.
  • Suggested / encouraged routes into and out of downtown (east) during this work:  Use the connector to travel between New Minas and Kentville's North end, and Belcher Street to go to and from downtown OR use Highway 101 and Chester Avenue.
  • UNOFFICIAL WEST TO EAST DETOUR OPTION: While there is no signed detour route, if you are travelling West to East on Park Street/Main Street and intend to travel straight through (to New Minas) you may bypass the one lane congestion in front of Town hall by turning right off of Main either at Glenview Avenue or School Street.  From there, turn onto Academy and travel east to Prospect.  Take Prospect all the way back to Main.  Local traffic headed East with downtown as the final destination should stay on Main and abide lights and signage as usual.

Updates will be added to this page as we have them available.  We understand there will be some unavoidable disruption as we work through this considerable project in the downtown business district.  We appreciate cooperation and patience from our downtown operators, vehicular travellers, and visitors, as we complete this important work to make our downtown more accessible and better for everyone.

Business operators and property owners with questions or concerns can also contact the Town directly as required.
