Downtown Construction Schedule and Updates - Summer 2025

As the Town of Kentville prioritizes much needed repairs to our streets and sidewalks this season there will be a variety of jobs and activity happening over the coming weeks.  Consult this section of our website for updates as we move through the construction and repair season.

DOWNTOWN SIDEWALK REPLACEMENT PROJECT

Work to replace sidewalks in Kentville's downtown core started in the Spring of 2024 and continues with the next phase which began in April 2025.   The project includes sidewalk replacement on Aberdeen Street, Webster Street, Main Street, and some work on Bridge.

Aberdeen Street - WORK COMPLETED!
Webster Street - WORK COMPLETED!
Main Street - work ongoing
**Please note a planned water shut off for Tuesday October 14th that will begin at 6pm and last until 12:00 midnight***  This shut off will affect water customers along Main Street between the Aberdeen Street intersection and Church Avenue.  Directly affected customers will receive letters of formal notification from the Town of Kentville, likely to be delivered on Friday October 10th.****

Once water service is restored: Run cold water taps for several minutes to clear any air or discolored water from the lines. Avoid using hot water until the cold water runs clear to prevent drawing any sediment into your hot water tank. Slight discoloration or cloudiness is normal after a repair and should clear up relatively shortly after the repair is complete.

  • Mobilization and staging of the work began on the South side of Main Street, downtown, on Monday September 8th.
  • Work area includes the south side of the sidewalk from the intersection at Aberdeen and Main to the intersection of Prospect and Main.
  • Work required on this section includes replacement of underground pipes in addition to replacement of the curb and sidewalks
  • This job is difficult to execute in this location due to the nature of the work, the location of a pinch point in the work area near the clock, and pre-existing underground power and communication lines running heavily through and around the site.
  • Traffic control has been in place and so far is working as intended.  The south end of Aberdeen Street (by TAN coffee) is reduced to one lane.
  • Some delay to traffic movement is expected during this job, with main street being reduced to one lane from Aberdeen to Church on many days.
  • So far, traffic control has been working as intended creating minimal delays.
  • Alternatives to on street parking are shown on the parking map.  We encourage and recommend that people use the large lot in the north end of downtown located at 87 Bridge Street (behind the Kentville Justice Centre).

Updates will be added to this page as we have them available.  We understand there will be some unavoidable disruption as we work through this considerable project in the downtown business district.  We appreciate cooperation and patience from our downtown operators, vehicular travellers, and visitors, as we complete this important work to make our downtown more accessible and better for everyone.

Business operators and property owners with questions or concerns can also contact the Town directly as required.
