SUMMER WEDNESDAY NIGHTS - JAM SESSIONS

 

Every Wednesday night at the Kentville Lions' Hall a gifted group of musicians and their supporters gather to play, sing and enjoy the music. Enjoy the comfort of the Hall where it is cool or warm, and dry when you need it to be. Clean washrooms available! No alcohol is permitted or served. Please bring a snack to share with everyone. A good time is had!

TAKE NOTICE that Kentville Town Council will be holding a PUBLIC HEARING on Monday, September 8, 2025 at 5pm in Council Chambers of Town Hall, 354 Main Street, Kentville, NS. Council intends to consider at this meeting the following proposals:

 

  1. Land Use Bylaw Text Amendments to revise amenity and parking requirements for residential developments in the General Commercial (C1) Zone.

 

  1. Land Use Bylaw Map Amendments to rezone 157 Main Street (PID 55467070) from the One and Two Units Residential (R2) Zone to the Medium Density Residential (R3) Zone.

 

Any interested persons who wish to speak on the matter are welcome to attend and make their opinions known to Council. Visual presentations, such as PowerPoint, and written submissions must be provided to staff before 12:00 noon on the business day immediately preceding the Hearing.

Kentville residents elect six councillors and the mayor every four years during municipal elections. This team meets each month during the Council Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting with directors to understand town operations, and to receive recommendations from staff.  At the end of each month, council considers these and other recommendations and makes decisions in the best interest of the town. Both the CAC and council meetings are open to the public, either live at Town Hall or online using YouTube.  All council meetings and council meeting highlights are available on the town's YouTube channel.

The Investment Advisory Committee is appointed by Council to monitor the investment portfolio and investment activities pursuant to the Perpetual Reserve Fund Policy for the funds invested from the sale of the Kentville Electric Commission. Nova Scotia Bill # 20 – Town of Kentville and Kentville Electric Commission Sale of Assets Act stated that “The Town shall establish a Special Perpetual Reserve Fund.”  Direction is provided within Town of Kentville’s Policy Statement G26 – Investments – Perpetual Reserve Fund Policy.  The investment Committee meets monthly with the Investment Manager/Advisor to review the past month’s progress and the position of the Fund.

The advisory group for the Kentville Police Service, the Police Commission works to help strengthen and improve the Police Service. The commission meets 11 times per year to discuss emerging issues, equipment, and personnel. Members on this board include two members of Town Council, two members from the community, and a representative from the provincial Department of Justice.

The Heritage Committee was created in 2023 in response to public concern over the loss or threat of loss of significant heritage buildings in the town.  This committee is seeking to develop a means to preserve and protect heritage buildings and elements in the town.
