Deb was a 35-year former employee of the Town of Kentville’s Finance department. Deb spent ten years in accounting with her last 25 years spent as the Director of Finance. She retired from that position in December 2022.

Deb is a specialist in local government holding a Certificate in Local Government Administration (Dalhousie University). She is also a Certified Municipal Manager. For more than a decade, Deb was a course instructor for Dalhousie University’s College of Continuing Education program teaching budgeting and financial management to police professionals both nationwide and internationally.

She was awarded the Community IT Heros award from the Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC)- one of 63 awards given nationally- for advancing Kentville’s information technology matters. This achievement was recognized by the Nova Scotia legislature via Resolution 2339. This robust software solution is recognized as “best in class” by the Province.

During her tenure, Deb was an integral part of the senior management team. Her job encompassed all budgeting and financial management of the Town’s financial resources, leading a team in the Finance department, including IT, attendance at Council Advisory Committee meetings and, when needed, Town Council meetings. She also assumed the role of Acting Chief Administrative Officer, as required.

As part of her tenure, Deb was a member of several Town committees/boards. In addition to extensive report writing, Deb was responsible for issuing, analyzing and recommending Requests for Proposals for several professional-type services utilized by the Town.

Deb is a long-term resident of Kentville moving into Kentville when she became the Finance Director. She lives with her mini-poodle, Maggie Muggins and her semi-feral rescue cat, Trixie. She has two grown sons both living in Kings with their families. Sunday is Family Day when most of the family gathers to connect and share a meal. Deb enjoys spending time at the gym several times a week, puttering around the yard…and her family!
