John Andrew

John Andrew

Councillor

Over the past twenty-six years, John Andrew has been a social advocate and has founded and operated a number of services and supports for people at-risk in our region. He has been a national leader in advocacy and been a catalyst for initiatives to support marginalized people around the Province. A number of initiatives founded by John continue to help hundreds of people each year through transitional housing, emergency shelters, food programming and recovery supports.

A Provincial Volunteer of The Year recipient, John is currently serving as Chairperson for Valley Connect Outreach Association - a registered charity that serves people in need throughout The Annapolis Valley. He is also President of The Purple Peacock Thrift Store - a social enterprise that raises money for charity and serves as a workspace for people with obstacles to employment. His work in business and with non-profits have taught him the meaning of hard work and good fiscal management.

Beyond his extensive volunteering and work in the charitable sector, John has previously served as a Municipal Councillor and on many Boards and Committees. He loves the outdoors and is passionate about stewardship of nature. Foremost, John is passionate about people and working collaboratively towards solutions and success.

John lives in Kentville with his wife Lisa who has volunteered as Coordinator of The Community Soup Kitchen for the past sixteen years. They have seven children and four grandchildren and live with their three youngest children, Ezra, Emmy & Daisy, their dog Willow and cat Stan Lee.
